Since we have vibrational flower remedies, lets work with the idea of a photographic yantra, as depicted in nature. Vibrational healing goes very well with orthomolecular remedies. See www.orthomolecular.org Take a minute or so, double click this picture and really look at it and feel the color.

What is the relationship of imagination to reality? The reality is that your imagination is an ever present miracle of consciousness which we often take for granted. Can you feel eternity by being in the present moment ?

I'm captivated by this surreal emanation. I felt there was something compelling with this photograph. G-d is inherent in all vibrant beauty. Here a transient moment was captured radiating divine love and healing from the botanic plane. Herbs, flowers, leaves, stems and roots were created to serve us in healing our bodies and inner spirit. When you look at the ribbed structure of these railroad vines, you can see how the emanation broadcasts simultaneously throughout several planes. It so obvious that you really have to think about what this really is all about. When you look into the eyes of these flowers , are you not looking into the eyes of Mother Nature ?

We have a rare organic healing vibratory gem in a bed of granular crystalline transmission. Grains of sand can be a symbolic infinity, like stars in the sky, like a multitude of universes in heavenly creation, like countless neurons in our mind, all a broadcast of interrelated pulsating mitochondrial energy. This energy is related to the fire on the Burning Bush. Is there pulsation even in stasis ? Violet is a higher frequency of light, but only limited by the confines of the eye's

limits of physical perception. What then are the limits of our third eye, also known as our G-d Eye ?

I'll let my spirit write this post...

Let's partake in a short meditation. First take a few deep relaxing rhythmic breaths. Take your time and enjoy them.

Meditate on healing, love and peace while contemplating this exquisite creation. Do this for one minute or more.

Now feel its healing and purifying vibration, while believing with all your heart in the purity and

goodness of G-d's creation, our planet and our environment.

Violet being a higher vibration of light, send this divine frequency of purification and alignment throughout your body from it's spatial temporal matrix residing in the the spinning platter served in cyber space into a shared moment within your Sahasraram Chakra. This transcendent feeling bathes your mind in glorious happiness and joy. Can you not believe in miraculous healing, even though every moment of you conscious awareness is based upon the constant gift, the ever present miracle of your conscious awareness ? Visualize the burning bush , the eternal flame! It beings life, consciousness, awareness and energy to our mitochondria. Honor this. Realize you are much more than your body, that you are connected to all creation by virtue of

Consciousness.

Let this vibration purify and heal every cell and tissue of your body. Affirm your love for our environment, honor it's purity. This may happen quickly or slowly, but be patient and give this time. This is a free gift, a grace that works of it's own accord. Then feel the love of our Creator

for Us and our Planet, the Oneness of Creation.

Do you you hear OM breathing in, when momentarily stilling your breath, breathing out ? Now radiate this sacred energy from you heart center healing our planet, our atmosphere, and all living beings and creatures. You heal yourself by healing others.

Broadcast this affirmation while quietly chanting OM.

VIBRATIONS OF PERCEPTUAL COLOR

Simply take in the vibration of color, the feeling of quiet mind and healing, then double click each picture and look closely. Nature speaks for itself.

Where are these flowers in present time ?

In Texas ? On a server in a spatial temporal nexus in Googlelandia, up in the ephemeral clouds of the net, perhaps in a trailer, on your laptop, desktop pc, on your monitor or in your mind ? How fast are all the disk platters spinning in

synchronicity ?

Or in my mind at the time I took the pictures or posted them in my blog: What time is it now, here where I am or there where you are, or is time suspended in an eternal present stasis at the point of compositional perception or pressing the shutter button ?

Does your understanding and my understanding meet and commune with each other ? Perhaps the subjects each convey their own understanding ? We may never know what is in our respective minds, but our hearts can have mutual feeling on aesthetic ground. Yet here that place is cyberspace. A point connected everywhere. What's the fuss, it's still just all of "US".

What is the basis and foundation of perception ?

How can a photograph communicate across the boundaries of cultural and language variance ?

Pictoral symbols that evoke thoughts, feelings, and memories that are present time, past time, and future fantasies. We can often loose our sense of time in deep focus and concentration. This picture was taken in April, 2009, and one day when you look at it in the future,we will be sharing that present moment across temporal and spatial boundaries.

There really isn't much to say, just double click on these pictures and enjoy them...

The picture on top, is of a tree trunk embracing the sky during the day and the heavens at night.

The second picture is a yellow cactus flower, basking in solar energy.

The next two are flowers among the grasses and leaves, and the final two are close ups of railroad vines.

In four minutes Monday transitions into Tuesday.

ZZZZZ's beckon.

Sweet Dreams

WHAT'S THE MYSTERY OBJECT ?

Well I have been remiss, it's nearly been a year since I have posted an entry.

Back in early June I drove over to Austin, Tx. to visit Wayne. If you do , we're gonna git ya.” It also announces that Austin has a World Class University, Technology and Research Center, and is a Global Presence. Of course I feel that Texas has one of the finest University systems in the country, and if y’all are unaware of this, spend a couple of days in Austin.

While I also like UW Madison, Austin beats Wisconsin climate wise, especially in the Winter and when it comes to college football, sports, music, entertainment, and having fun, what more can I ever say? Maybe an armadillo or two would have been a nice touch as well, along with jalapeno peppers and a couple of Lonestars. Maybe one day we will even have a Longhorn or Lonestar Club in Manhattan.

Perhaps for the next bigger and better skyscraper, the Austin City Fathers and Moms will consider using local architectural talent from Austin itself, or from the University.

Of course I hope there’s a solid and safe evacuation plan from the top floors, in case everyone has to rush downstairs to celebrate the latest UT football victory. The grounds of the Ashram are located on a beautiful mountain lake. It was truly a place where one could leave behind their problems and focus on spiritual growth.

I asked Dr. Mishra if I could take a group picture, and he kindly obliged. He also praised my photographic talents, which was an unexpected pleasant surprise. I continued to photograph and video tape Dr. Mishra as opportunities presented themselves over the next twenty one years.

Dr. Mishra is in the front row on the right, as you face the picture.

We left NYC at the end of 1973 for Texas. Miami Beach High School.

During our break I came across Edith Epstein, Swami Naranda, teaching a Hatha Yoga Class. She told me her Guru was Dr. Mishra. Later I studied Hatha Yoga with her, and completed her teacher's training course.

If you click on: http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Shel+Stein you can view videos of Dr. Mishra and Swami Naranda . He was a gifted and talented speaker, naturally charismatic .

I wonder what he would add to his "dream " today ? A world with clean air, pure food,....less environmental contaminants and pollution ? Would he say a world where people of all faiths get along in harmony, where Sunnis love Shiites, where Jews, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and Hindus get along in harmony ? A world free of disease and hunger, rather than free of universal health care ? Where people live their lives by the 10 Commandments ?

What would he have put on his website ? Who would he support as the 2008 Presidential candidate ? What would he say to President Bush were he alive today to visit the White House?

When I shook his hand after his speech, all I could say was , "It was a pleasure to meet you."

These moments can be taken for granted at the time they transpire, and in retrospect they had historical impact.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://photoorthogonalblog.blogspot.com/2007/09/dr-martin-luther-king-jr-georgia-state.html' title='DR. Alexander Lowen,M.D., and John Pierrakos M.D. were the founders of the Bioenergetic movement. While these were a couple of simple available light pictures, as a psychology major, seeing Drs Lowen in Pierrakos in action was purely profound, especially when they worked on the department head and another of my professors.

Above is a picture of Dr. Pierrakos , shortly before his flight left Atlanta. after the session we got into an interesting conversation where he spoke about the aura and Kirilian photography.

He also mentioned that he once watched the soul of one of his patients leaving the body upon death, while he viewed this taking place through a filter of dye cyanin. This was much more exciting than studying dog experiments in experimental psychology or sectioning frozen rat brains with a micro tome, post experiments. I purposely avoided this tract in my course work.

Top top image in the center is of Dr Lowen and Dr. Pierrakos outside, what I believe was the Dragon Seed Restaurant in downtown Atlanta. I drove them for lunch and back to the airport.

The other people in the picture were from the Psychology department at GSC.

The Bioenergetic movement came form the work of Wilhelm Reich. What I will always remember is that every psychopathology has a physical correlate, and in order to effect a lasting cure, the body and flow of energy have to be worked on, not just the mind alone. Personality can be etched in the face, and reflected in the posture and structure of the body.

These were medical doctors that focused on the mind as well as the energy flows in the body. The 60's schism between talk therapy and using meds still exists today, except inflation has made this a more expensive indulgence.Bioenergetic therapy often had profound and lasting results. I saw Dr. Lowen cure a migraine headache in minutes.

Several years ago I met Dr. Michael Lesser,M.D. who wrote, "The Brain Chemistry Diet" from http:/www.nutritionconference.com . Dr. Lesser, who worked together with Dr. Linus Pauling posits, that dramatic changes in a persons state of mind can be accomplished through therapeutic does of vitamins, minerals , and amino acids.

As you look at heavy metals and environmental contaminants in the food chain, a lot comes together in the form of answers. You can also look at http://www.autismone.com and listen to their podcasts on the effect environmental issues have on children.

A lot of psychology courses revolved around what I felt was ancestor worship, memorizing and understanding theorists, and showing your understanding in tests. Bioenergetics was on the cutting edge.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://photoorthogonalblog.blogspot.com/2007/09/alexander-lowen-md-john-pierrakos-md.html' title='ALEXANDER LOWEN MD & JOHN PIERRAKOS MD, FOUNDERS OF THE BIOENERGETIC MOVEMENT. A nice period in our lives to remember.

THE SUFFERING INVISIBLE - NYC SUBWAY

One day I was riding the subway, and came across across a social wrong.

All probability dictates this woman has passed on to the next world. The picture was taken in the mid-60's , taken from a scanned slide. she was not wearing Manolo Blahniks. One might speculate from her babushka she was possibly once a European immigrant.

Was she once beautiful, was she well loved, with suitors and admirers when she was young. Did she once have a charming personality, and lithe figure ? What was she like ? Where did she go to school? Who were her friends ?

Did she have a happy childhood ? Who were her parents ? What was her Karma ?

Normally one looks away and passes by. Perhaps one makes a little prayer, but I wondered about the dignity of old age, where her family, children, and relatives ...if she had anyone ? Did she have a place to live ? Did she ride the subways all day and most of the night ? Who was there to bathe her, perfume her body, and wash her ? To dress her in clean, elegant, and beautiful clothes ?

How did we have such people in the midst of mid 60's opulence, especially in the Big Apple ? You could get off the subway and walk along Central Park East, and wonder at the comparison.

The suffering invisible are given labels as crazies who were once institutionalized or drug addicts, or perhaps in this case someone who was simply abandoned.

With the New Millennium the problem has not gone away. Ultimately we are all in G-d's hands.

The sign on the window asks to "save water", another problem that has yet to go away. Then again we can always rationalize, make merry, and simply look the other way.

TREES TELL ME HOW

A tree, foliage, a leaf , a bloom, are challenging subjects to photograph. How does one capture their essence and beauty other than by poetic imagery ?

If a photographer studies a subject, it tells you how. An answer forms, where you capture the
essence you perceive with the camera.

There are all from a bike path in Holland Park, in Hollywood, Florida. Again there's a quality of visual tactility, tactile-ness...merging perception. Subject and object become one. This is when I got bitten by the Photography Bug.
Hmmm this is interesting...one look, one snap of the shutter. Wasn't it Rashi who said something about the Eyes See and the Heart Desires.

I received my first serious camera, a Konica range finder in 1960.

What really made a difference in my view of photo editing was going to the Photoshop User conferences on Miami Beach. He was charismatic and was an excellent speaker. Dr. Elmer Green collaborated with Swami Rama in his research.

Swamiji built up a large organization in the US as well as built a Hospital in India. Overall he did a lot good in the world.

This is an older picture that he used in a couple of his books. He left the US and passed on in India.

While I find Eastern Philosophy and Yoga a fascinating subject, I believe one is responsible for one's own progress and enlightenment, and should always keep religion and cults in proper perspective and balance. Mishra, M.D.
The website of his ashram is at www.anandaashram.org .

The pictures below are of Swami Naranda Devi, Edith Epstein, who left her physical form a year later after Dr. Mishra in 1994.

Amritam is nectar...spiritual nectar, vibrational nectar, the nectar of knowledge. Double click on this picture and enjoy the feeling for a while...

The the bottle of Lechee Honey on the lower right is symbolic of sweetness. Gurus, spiritual teachers, holy persons show us how to know G-d, to feel and experience this idea and knowledge. Guruji often stated, "I am a cafeteria for all religions."

A Guru dispels darkness and brings light, by virtue of being closer to G-d, they take us along and give us a helping hand.

If you click on the Google Video Search link below, you can watch four nights of Dr. Mishra's programs and experience the teachings and knowledge via streaming video. The Internet is about sharing good knowledge and information. This is a good way to honor his memory and for you to learn some good technique and acquire some useful knowledge.

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=sri+brahmananda+sarasvati

Dr. Mishra's Guru, Bhagavan Das stated people came to him for "Transfer of Power".

Prasad is divinely inspired food which is spiritually blessed. It may be something a simple as a piece of fruit or a delicious specially prepared dish. Prasad takes on a special meaning and vibration when it comes from the hand of the Guru.

Swami Naranda Devi, Edith Epstein, taught Hatha Yoga and Meditation for over 40 years.

No doubt about it, good food is all about love. One of her favorite quotes was "Sharing is Caring". She was also renown for her vegetarian feasts. Toward the end of her life, when Dr. Mishra came down to her Ashram in Hallandale, Florida, she stayed up three nights preparing a special vegetarian feast as I recall with over 72 dishes. She liked to be referred to as"Swami Mommy". She was a Cosmic Jewish Mother, a great mom in any faith. Her students were from the US, Canada,India, Europe, and Latin America. Her students were lavished with plenty of motherly love. Swami Naranda taught yoga but would still light Shabbat candles, challah, and wine every Friday night, and have vegetarian Seders. She would also make tofu turkey on Thanksgiving.

Her life was dedicated to her students.

You can view her favorite relaxation, "This is your moment" here accompanied by master sitarist Roop Verma :

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Swami+Naranda+Devi

You can also view her speaking in a private sitar concert with Roop Verma performing.
Naranda's Ashram was behind the old Hallandale, Fl., City Hall and Main Fire Station. She offered yoga classes, intensives and teachers training courses. Most every weekend she featured "Yoga on the Beach"classes,in a pine grove on A1A and Hallandale Beach Blvd. One could remember the sound of pine trees rustling in the wind, interspersed with moments of silence. This was just South of Golden Beach, where Broward County begins in S. Florida.

Since then the Pine Grove was torn up and exclusive high rise condominiums have been built on this site, once owned by financier Victor Posner. The grounds of her Ashram were later turned into a adjoining single homes, and all the orchards and mango trees were dug up and hauled away. The main house was preserved as part of a small historical site. These grounds were a wonderful spatial temporal nexus while they lasted.

Shortly after she passed on I wrote a poem in her memory. She often used a metronome in her hatha yoga classes to give a sense of timing, in meditation one can experience eternity.
http://poeticorthogonal.blogspot.com/2007/06/swami-naranda-rememberance.html

The grounds of her Ashram had fabulous mango trees, papayas trees, and ample room for outdoor programs and concerts. The residents living in her historic building were a cast of characters, by any one's definition. She deserves to be remembered for her many wonderful qualities. She was not all that well known or publicized, but was an exceptional teacher.

MUNICH DRAGON

1989 Munich in the Old European World. Over history one wonders who was the most brutal, especially when you consider the conquistador's conquest of Mexico and the New World. Of course there was no multimedia or photographs of the genocide perpetuated on the native Indian populations. The Inquisition was however well documented to an extent.

The Mesquita was turned into a church, which was the general practice, and the one in Cordoba was also used as a Mausoleum, where bodies were interred under the floor, and bones in glass caskets. This went over well with the expelled Moors and the Ottomans.

The Synagogue in Toledo also was turned into a church with a reliquary. The New World traditions led to our New Millenium. Shall we "Give Peace A Chance" and have the next Woodstock Concert in Iraq ?

VENICE VENEDIG VENEZIA 1989

We visited Venice in 1988 and 1989. Venetians uniquely speak an Italian-ized dialect of Castilian Spanish. One can never tire of visiting Venice or it's adjacent islands. Always a great city to watch people, and experience good food, art, and beauty.

BACKYARD FROM MIAMI BEACH WATERWAY JUST OFF THE INTERCOASTAL

One Summer morning, we decided to take a boat ride around Biscayne Bay, and see the homes on Miami Beach. I always found Art and Drama majors to be interesting subjects and free spirits along with Psychology majors. Maybe it was my being a Psychology major, and my love of photography. What I noticed about her she was good company, and an excellent conversationalist where time would just pass and one would never know it.

Janie was another Art major and this picture as I recall took a full page in the yearbook at Georgia State. She was from up North and her dad was a judge. She was close to graduation, and told me she planned to tour Morocco and Europe. I was always fond of the timeless beauty of youth.

Over 37 years have passed and I never saw either Sue or Janie again.

However a couple of years later around 1971, I met a clothing manufacturer in NYC, who told me he went to Emory University. I asked him if he knew anyone from Georgia State ? He replied, "No, not really except for a lovely coed he traveled with around Europe and N. Africa". He also remembered the yearbook picture because Janie had showed it to him. He was slightly amazed as well that he met the photographer.

MARIA'S CAT FANNY IN CLASSIC REPOSE

About a year ago, we went to a fabulous dinner at Maria's in Bal Harbor, Fl. His "Psychology of Personality" class was my favorite psych course ever. He taught how to think, associate and compare, and was extremely knowledgeable when it came to personality theorists. He could easily communicate personality theorists and their nuances from Eysenk to Leary.

I remember I wrote a paper on the "Bagel of Traits" and earned an A. When I took the Advanced GRE in Psychology, I scored 95th percentile.

I always remembered him and I made an effort to stay in touch, and we corresponded by e-mail.

I recently e-mailed him one of my poems, and received the following reply:

"Shel, I continue to be amazed and delighted in the wide range of your
interests, knowledge, experience and readings.Your poem is a many
sided expression of you, and filled with wonderful metaphors.

It certainly speaks of your wide ranging talents, whimsicalness,
thoughtfulness, and philosophical and scientific mind. What a
delight you must be to your grandchildren. "

This made my day. I could always talk to him after class, and I learned so much from his courses. He trained quite a few excellent therapists.

Another professor, I liked was Arthur Cohen, Phd, who taught the "Group Dynamics" course.

We really came to appreciate the concept of ideology. His courses were also a lot of fun. These were outstanding educators who I will always appreciate and remember. There was also something nice about fellow psychology majors as well.

JOHN DANIELS - IN MEMORIUM 1980's

John was a pleasure to visit and transact business with during the mid 1980's. At this time he was the MIS Director of a prominent N. Miami mail order company, that did a huge business on a IBM mainframe. He later became a programmer at American Express, when he fell out of favor. One day I found out he passed on from lung cancer. Sadly he loved cigarettes.

John was originally from France and during the Vietnamese conflict he was in the French military as an observer, who hid in the jungle tree canopy and observed without anyone knowing he was there. What I remember especially about John is that it was always a treat to call on him. We could talk about anything from family to cuisine and technology, as well as politics or programming.

I always have felt that business is about relationship, and should always be a civilized experience. Today people live behind filters, the more prominent or important, the greater and deeper the layers of filtration, from voice mail, to e-mail filters, to executive assistants.

The Corporate Aristocracy of today, or 'Big Machers' have a suite of "Executive Assistants", in call centers or offices even miles away from their corporate offices, who hardly even know their CEO or President, other than they stop in, on rare occasions. Unless you have a letter of introduction or a friend to introduce you, they are not easy to meet.

In the sales world, a horrifying concept is "Supply Chain". It means, good luck trying to become one of our vendors and breaking in to their system. Metaphorically it may mean, if you get close we will try to beat you away with our chain. Supply chains lead to complacency, and risk adverse
corporate behavior. It makes it too easy to just click a mouse and order.

It is a term that purchasing people can use to hide behind, play safe and not take any risk. A retired CIO friend once told me that you have it take calculated risks to move forward in the corporate world. He also defined CIO to mean , "Change Is Often", and "Career Is Over".

In the Early 80's there was no voice mail, no e-mail, just a phone and assistants. Today business has become a bit too Darwinian, where people hide behind filters. They often believe their corporate ethics do not apply to vendors. Fortunately there often is the exception.

John Daniels deserves to be remembered as an excellent manager, and all around good guy.

JANICE JOPLIN BACKSTAGE - SHEA STADIUM 1970

One could not deny that Janice Joplin had amazing talent. The park and track were recently rebuilt, but there was an outstanding lineup for this concert. I was once caught behind Steppenwolf's Marshall amps at the end of "Born to be wild". Even though I was behind them, and I covered my ears. I felt the sound course though every bone in my body. What a relief when the music stopped.

So you think no one is ever watching when a photographer is snapping pictures ? I e-mailed the museum, to inquire about the little statue, and never heard back.

I thought it might be Aztec, but it appears to look Babylonian. The figure is definitely male, has wings, is carrying a knife, and seems aroused over something or other. Is he handling a snake that is crawling up his leg, either was there is some apparent symbolism, but fortunately is it not live and animated, only suggestive.

War and blood lust no doubt. Undoubtedly someone "Sechel" or common sense, "Liegt in Dreht", is lying in the grave. Lust, zealotry, and fundamentalism, seems to have dissipated the mind of this creature, beyond sense or reason.

I wonder under whose auspices it was created, and what the artist had in mind. It might fit in well in Iraq these days, a demon for Sunni's going after Shiites, Shiite's going after Sunnis, fundamentalist's chasing Americans and Europeans, as well as the West's lust for oil. Yes, definitely some New Millennium symbolism. And for what ? To What end may we ask ? Or is it the demon of industrialization and globalization. Is it reminiscent of insurance companies and health care HMO's, practicing capitation. Is it the cloud of pollution and the environmental despoiling of the planet ?

What became of the civilization who created this little statue ? Might make a nice SUV hood ornament at that.

Central Park 1970

One morning we went to meet some friends by the fountain in Central Park.

I had my Leica M2, and with the vantage point from the steps above, captured a wonderful scene full of activity sounds, and life. Of course there were no digital cameras with microphones, or consumer camcorders, but it was amazing what a good Summicron lens and low asa film could accomplish.

I can remember holding the camera in my hands, looking for the right vantage point, pulling back the advance lever and pushing the shutter button, and the characteristic silent click of the shutter curtain. A Leica was more of an extension than an instrument.

I used to love taking Tri-x , pushing the ASA with Acufine, using a grain focusing microscope and making 16x20's in large trays in my darkroom, usually a converted bathroom at home.

On the lower left you can see the Hare Krishnas chanting and dancing about. The pond in the background already had a number of rowboats. What were all these people talking about ? Who was meeting whom for the first time that morning ?

What had transpired the night before, and what business was currently being transacted? Was there love in the air ? Romance in the park ? Waht was to happen later that night or later during the day ? Thirty Seven years ago. This was a Geo Spatial Temporal Nexus, with souls going about in orthogonal directions.

One might say this is part of the incomparable ambiance that enamors one soul from living in Manhattan. New Yorkers , contrary to some peoples belief are amazingly friendly and sociable, in the midst of a natural urbane sophistication. You can travel to any metropolitan destination in the world, but there's only one New York City.

The Angel is watching over everyone in the vicinity, but overhead G-d sees everything.

COMMUNING WITH FLOWERY SUBJECTS

There's a relationship and unity between subject and object, consciousness and existence are imbued with the Divine Spark. On a certain level subject and object are one, there is a unity from a vibrational perspective.

If you commune, focus long enough, a flower will tell you how it wants to be photographed, from what perspective, and how it will look most beautiful.

Color matching when it comes to monitors and printing, it's sort of a mishigas, unless you use exotic metering matching equipment and software, is akin to voodoo. My solution is simple and eloquent, use kinesiology and and your inner self thru an o-ring test, " How should I adjust this color, so it will look and come out good". Then remember to write down your settings. Essentially you make a "O" with your thumb and forefinger. With the forefinger of your
other hand, see how strong the ring holds, before you can pull it apart. Before you do this, ask yourself a question, " Do I need more red ? Right in front of the main entrance was magnolia tree in bloom. If you remember what the father of Gestalt Psychology,Fritz Pearls, said about the 'present moment'.

Study these flowers, and take a moment of presence to get the full benefit.

Psychoimmunology is a term that applies to flower remedies. The menu was up on a board, and even if there was a 30 to 45 minute wait, it was so very worth it. New York city is one of the largest of metropolitan small worlds. I had graduated from Georgia State College, you can see in the lower right, I'm taking a self portrait, to my right is a friend from GSC who had come up to visit, and to my right a fraternity brother and a friend of his, who had just happened to come by and was pleasantly surprised to see me.

During that year I met a young lady who was in my physical anthropology class, and a fellow my age who knew an art major who I had photographed a couple of years earlier for the Rampway, the GSU yearbook, but this will be the subject of another posting.

A year ago I was at a cinema in South Beach and we had been watching some Wong Kar Wai films on DVD. I was Googling Chinese cinema, and it turns out that Ester Eng, who had the restaurant next to Bo-Bo's was one of the early directors in Chinese cinema. She was as I had learned was a partner in Bo-Bo's, is is only an understatement which explains why we always saw these beautiful film actresses who ran the restaurant. This but an understatement. They had a most definite presence.

I would say their Chow Gai Kew, was about the best I had ever tasted. My Brother Mel Stein, and his good friend from U. Mich, Paul Markham Khan were both actuaries and devotees of superb Chinese cuisine. They both were winners of the Society of Actuaries coveted "Triennial Prize" in sucession . Another pleasant memory of good company.

Surprisingly it's difficult to find a good recipe for Gai Kew. At Bo-Bo's they had wonderful delicious tender black mushrooms, baby corn, snow peas, and water chestnuts. Around the corner was our favorite place for steamed and baked bao, but that's for another posting as well.

Bo-Bo's sadly closed a number of years ago.

Tactile Beauty & Poison Dehydrating by the Ocean

We often would walk along Hollywood Beach in the early mornings. Jelly fish appear usually in late April or May. I found them to be a fascinating subject.

You almost want to touch them, but you can do this safely with your eyes. In Chinese cuisine , specially prepared jellyfish are a luxury. Consider this photo a colorful visual Rorshach test.

Take a minute to contemplate it, and note the associations that come to your mind.

The colors and resonant blue glow are an unnatural enhancement from photo editing.

One's Muse can jump from poetry, to translation, to music to photography. When one writes a blog , consistency is often called for every time one's fingers touch the keyboard or press the shutter. It's somewhere between caressing one's muse or titillating it's "B- Spot". (Blog Spot)
For candid work, you do need a little chutzpah anyway.

Meditation is good for photography and the arts, because it helps one clear the mind, relax, understand and focus, but there is also a chaotic serendipity, that ties in with pressing the shutter button, tied in with fortuitous serendipity and instinct.

Whether one is taking a video or a photo, you want to capture what you see uniquely, rather than what the camera sees. You hope to learn how to look at a subject either directly or through the viewfinder or these days, the LED screen. There's a process of vibrational communion, between photographer and subject.

When I started photographing in 1960, I suppose a bit more seriously when I acquired my first Konica 35mm rangefinder camera, I would take a roll of film to the drug store and get it processed. During the mid 60's I acquired a Meopta enlarger from the Camera Barn in Manhattan. After my first year at Queens College, where I was on the collge newspaper staff.

I moved to Altanta, and finished my psychology degree at Georgia State College. I worked part time at Wing's Photo and acquired a Hasselbad 500C and Superwide C. I would attend the major fraternity parties every weekend, and have pictures ready for everyone Monday morning. The best feedback ever, "Did I do that ? ", "Is that me ? ".

These were fine cameras, but a little too heavy to schlep around in a camera bag. I became enamored of Leica rangefinder cameras, although I also had a Cannon Pellix and a Nikon F2.
Leicas were quiet and after shooting a few hundred rolls , one acquires a sense of exposure, and using the right f-stop for depth of field.

One's photo collection is part of one's life. When I often went to the library to browse through photo books, the photographer was rarely there to tell me about his or her thoughts on the pictures.

I want to mention Henry Vasquez, who was the operations VP at Hollywood Federal Savings and Loan. Henry's major achievement was to put together the art collection for the new EF Hutton building in New York City, shortly before the junk bond fiasco. Henry had a taste that was spectacular. He caught a fatal illness went to Brazil for a heroic cure and his incarnation came to an end in 1991. I still have the catalog from EF Hutton.

Hollywood Federal was one of our clients, and I met Henry, and he offered to give me a tour of the art collection he assembled for the Bank. During the time of the Resolution Trust Corp, the S&L became an acquisition, along with the art collection. Where the collection ended up along with the collection at EF Hutton, remains a mystery.
